Tap the + button on the Home screen and select "Add Friend". You can share your QR code, send a link via message, or scan a friend's QR code directly. Once connected, you'll see your friend in the receipts list.
When you create a debt, it's sent to your friend for confirmation. This two-way system prevents anyone from adding fake debts unilaterally. Once confirmed, the debt appears on both receipts. You can skip this step by using the QR Code flow instead.
Tap "via QR" in the Create Debt screen, enter the amount and role, and a QR code appears. When your friend scans it with GIVU, the debt is instantly confirmed and saved — no waiting required. Great for splitting bills at a restaurant.
Open a receipt by tapping on a friend's name in the Home screen. Tap "pay part" at the bottom. Enter the amount you received (only the creditor can log a payment — this keeps records accurate). The balance updates automatically.
When creating a new debt, tap "Use other currency" below the friend selection to override the friendship currency for that specific debt. For individual debts, you can always choose a different currency regardless of the friendship default.
Tap the paintbrush icon on the Home screen to open Receipt Customization. Free themes are always available. Signature themes can be unlocked by adding 10 friends — one Signature theme unlocks per 10 friends added.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Make sure you have a stable internet connection. Try signing out of your Google account in iPhone Settings and signing back in. If the problem persists, try restarting the app. If it still doesn't work, contact us with your device model and iOS version.
GIVU uses in-app notifications, not push notifications. Notifications appear inside the app (bell icon on Home screen) when someone adds you as a friend, sends a debt, or confirms one. Make sure you're looking inside the app rather than expecting device-level notifications.
Make sure GIVU has camera permission in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → GIVU. Ensure the QR code is well-lit and fully visible in the camera frame. The QR code must be generated by GIVU — codes from other apps will not work.
GIVU requires an internet connection to sync data. Check your connection and try pulling down to refresh on the Home screen. If the issue persists, try signing out and signing back in. If syncing is still broken, contact us with details.
Make sure your friend is using GIVU and has created an account. The QR code displayed in GIVU links directly to their GIVU account — scanning a screenshot or QR from another app won't work. Both users must have the same version of the app installed.
